Assistant Clerk/Chief Executive Vacancy

Holyrood

Salary: £83,887 to £111,289

Closes: 31 October 2018

Are you an experienced senior leader or director with a track record of achieving high-impact results within a complex and often pressurised and politically sensitive environment?

Do you have a deep interest in the workings of the Scottish Parliament and working knowledge of the political and parliamentary landscape?

If this is you, then your skills and experiences could be what we are looking for.

We are seeking an astute and compelling senior leader with the credibility and skills to collaborate with others to lead our response to constitutional change, and to help create an environment where people are at the heart of everything we do, and continuous improvement thrives.  A senior leader who has a track record of successfully working with a broad range of board-level stakeholders and external contacts, applying sound political judgement to handle sensitive and complex issues in a changing environment.

As a senior member of the Scottish Parliament’s Leadership Group, reporting to the Clerk/Chief Executive, you will have a pivotal role for political and parliamentary matters, providing advice to the Clerk/Chief Executive, Presiding Officer and the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body and influencing policy and decision-making at the strategic level.  A thorough understanding of current UK and Scottish government strategy and political influence together with a high level of political sensitivity is essential.

You will also lead on strategic and resource planning and significant change programmes; shape and reinforce our workplace culture and values; and lead risk and opportunity to deliver our priorities in the context of our quality, financial and other performance and governance targets.  The ideal candidate must have significant experience of leading on the identification of strategic plans, including developing sustainable financial and resourcing plans for a complex and changing organisation.

The rewards will be significant as this role provides a unique opportunity to shape the overall position of the Scottish Parliament for years to come.
